Weight loss by filter paper and native herbage is being studied on five meadows in the Sequoia National Park, California, to develop an index to rate of herbage decompostion. Some samples are buried 5 cm deep; others are placed on the surface.

All samples are left in place for 1 year. First year results show that the herbge samples provided better estimates of mean loses than. Get this from a library. Decomposition of filter paper and herbage in meadows of the high Sierra Nevada: preliminary results.

[Raymond D Ratliff; Pacific Southwest Forest and Range Experiment Station (Berkeley, Calif.)]. {xiv} {1} MOUNTAINEERING IN THE SIERRA NEVADA I THE RANGE. The western margin of this continent is built of a succession of mountain chains folded in broad corrugations, like waves of stone upon whose seaward base beat the mild, small breakers of the Pacific.

By far the grandest of all these ranges is the Sierra Nevada, a long and massive uplift lying between the arid deserts of the Great. The Sierra Nevada has been heavily impacted for more than a century and a half, first by heavy grazing up into high elevation meadows, followed by major logging, and finally, by impacts associated.

A common approach for measuring N 2 O emissions is to collect midmorning or early evening gas samples from experiments utilizing the chamber-based flux methodology. The sample is filtered through a 1-inch membrane filter.

The wet filter is removed and placed on top of 2 drops of immersion oil on a micro- scopic slide, and 2 drops of immersion oil are placed on top of the filter.

The filter is air-dried at room temperature until clear (approximately 48 hours). A cover slip is added prior to examination. 78 18 Soil Loss on Two Soils with Different Rates of Infil- tration as Related to Straw Mulch Rates 85 19 Location of Streamflow and Sediment Stations in Lake Tahoe Basin 97 20 The Demonstration Site on Luther Pass in the Sierra Nevada Mountains of California, Before Willow Wattles were Planted 98 21 The Demonstration Site in the Sierra Nevada.

Vowing to devote his life to studying not the creations of humankind but those of God, he left his home in the northern Midwest and tramped across the continent, settling finally in the Sierra Nevada, where he formed a bone-deep identification with the high mountains and the great Sequoia trees (trees named, incidentally, for the Sequoya, whose.
